So Murph has returned home from his epic road trip with Jobi and it hasn't taken long for him to get involved with the ongoing search for new bouldering areas in the Adirondack Park. With his interest peaked by what we saw in his absence up at Second Pond this past weekend, he took to the internet to scour aerial images, topographic maps and various pictures of the surrounding areas.
Here is what he found in a matter of hours...just off of the shore of McKenzie Pond. It appears that the current McKenzie Pond bouldering area us a mere turd compared to what lies further into the forest!
I have hiked up to the pond a couple of years ago. On the right side of of the trail a good hike in is a large boulder with some climbs on it.There was a make shift ladder made out of branches nail together but it looked old as dirt at the time. The boulder needed cleaning as well but it is a really good size boulder. The worst black flies I have ever experienced unreal.Great lake wonder on what side of the lake as in comparison to the trails location.Happy belated Birthday.
ReplyDeleteKyle,
ReplyDeleteI have never hiked into the lake, but from the aerial, all of these boulders are on the West side of the lake (so I guess the left side of the lake). Did any of the climbs on that lone boulder look promising? I can't get over how much rock there is out that way, well I guess it makes sense with 46 mountains over 4,000' in height in the surrounding hillsides. Thanks for the bday shout!
I did a short climb on the back side with my wife for a spot.the other side is much much taller it is a lone boulder in the middle of the woods right off the trail now I really want to go back and check it out now.Any plans for the weekend
ReplyDeleteas of right now, we are trying to get some boats so we can get back into Second Pond. I am convinced that this weekend might be the last Adk weekend that is relatively bug free...or they might be in full force with all of this rain and recent heat and we could get eaten alive. Either way, I want to see these boulders again!
ReplyDeleteI will have my son but I will take him are you guys planing on camping.
ReplyDeletei personally will not be camping...Murph, Jobi and some others might be. Psyched to get back to the area to keep mapping the potential and climbing new stone!
