New Wooden Volumes for the Home Wall

With all of this "down time" from the ongoing back pain/spasm issues, I have been able to take care of some lingering projects around the house that I have been putting off.  Last week I started to build some new triangle volumes for my home climbing wall to replace the original ones that I made five years ago.  The main reason for replacing the original volumes was that they were made out of 1/2" plywood and I wanted to make the new ones out of 3/4" plywood and maximize the number of t-nuts in each volume.

Overall I am very happy with the new volumes/features.  These things are a necessity for any home wall.  They make surfaces on my 45 degree walls and the roof section useable for climbing holds that would otherwise be useless...at least to the average climber; such as poor slopers, pinches, shallow pockets, etc.

I cannot wait to be pain free again so I can train on my home wall again!

  1. Thanks for the pics of the lair of the crusher. I was wondering how high the ceiling is . I know with the 45 you get a much longer surface from base to apex. I have space just not sure what i want to do with it exactly or which space to best utilize. Your pics are great because I was just recently contemplating this again. And was wondering if you your self had a home wall and what it would look like.So the pics are a great reference to me and everyone thanks. The volume mods are great.Peace

    1. Kyle- good to hear from you man! The ceiling on my home wall is around 8' tall. I have two 45 degree walls leading up to the ceiling/roof portion of the wall which is 4'x8' surface area. I also have the flat wall on the window side of the wall. I think the most important thing to include in any wall with steep angles is a 12" tall "kicker" board for foot holds to start your boulder problems. Keep me posted on your home wall progress!
