Local Access Fund Events: TOTAL SUCCESS!!!

First off, I would like to personally thank everyone who made it out to Caroga Lake, NY this past Saturday to help me, my friends, and the Access Fund's Conservation Team (Mike and Amanda) with the trash cleanup effort at the Adirondacks largest bouldering area, Nine Corner Lake and then the donation ceremony at the Canada Lake Boulders (aka Pinnacle Boulders) for Ms. Ellen Wood and her family.

When the dust settled, the volunteers were able to gather somewhere around 15 full size garbage bags full of all sorts of trash and litter that had been irresponsibly left behind by campers and hikers up at Nine Corner Lake.  It was quite disturbing to see how much garbage there actually was from beer cans to dirty diapers to  tents and tarps...the list goes on and on.  Volunteers even had to snorkel in the lake to collect trash that had been deliberately thrown into the water.  WTF people !!!  This complete neglect for the Adirondack wilderness is something that I will never understand and will never let go without being addressed.  The Town of Caroga Lake even offered up some help with a handful of volunteers and a Town truck at the trail head to help collect and transport all of the garbage.

Following the Nine Corner Lake trash cleanup, everyone headed down the road towards the Canada Lake Boulders (aka Pinnacle Boulders) for a donation ceremony for the landowners who donated a 18.5 acre parcel of land to the Access Fund who will in turn be transferring the property to NYSDEC in the next year or so.  This land acquisition has secured public access for climbers and hikers on this property and is a show of generosity that we should all be thankful for.  Ms. Ellen Wood and family; I would like to personally thank you all from the bottom of my heart!  As a climbing community we will continue to look over this land, take care of any issues that it has, and enjoying the climbing there forever.
