Calling all Scouts...

So this Sunday I plan on heading into the elusive Second Pond in Saranac Lake, NY that has been described briefly in the new Adirondack Rock climbing guidebook.  The brief descriptions talks of a nice 30 minute paddle from the boat launch to a nice sandy beach on the lake with two house sized boulders next to the leanto.  Locals claim that there is some serious potential for quality boulder problems and many of the erratics are larger than house-sized.

To add to these rumors, yesterday on my way home from McKenzie Pond, I stopped briefly to look at some boulders just off of the road next to the Saranac Lake Boat Launch.  The rock quality was good, the boulders were large, and they actually had holds.

I am throwing a shout out to anyone who has a canoe and might want to join in on this scouting journey...below is an aerial image I found of some of the erratics in the canoe approach to the leanto.

Could this be destiny???

  1. The space between the two biggest boulders is the docking area that is described in the guidebook. the water isn't quite deep enough for free soloing....

  2. Dude, quit spraying on the dacks! That "new" spot isn't developed probably because it sucks; did you ever think of that?

  3. Definately thought about that, but also willing to venture in there to see if it sucks or not...that's how development evolves, you have to get out there!

  5. Hi my name is Ben and my vocab is limited to "dope". By the way "Hogs" is and was not "dope". There are a few problems up there that are worthwhile.

As to spraying up the dacks - "dude" is simply using a media outlet to showcase his passion - no different than any other blog. If you are concerned about the "spray" - the simple solution would be to stop checking out the site.

    Keep the posts coming!

  7. Anon why you so anon?

ANYWAY, I would willingly join this excursion, but I'm workin sunday. Good luck and keep us posted on any newness! Take pictures, what not.

Unless its super-unbelievably good, then tell everyone that there wasn't anything there and make secret trips back until all the good lines are done.

  9. Andrew...any chance you were in PA checking out some of the new areas Brian Harrington has been working on? I was hoping to get a tour of some of those spots soon, haven't heard back from Brian concerning that possibility. Let me know man, thanks.
